To anyone who actually hasn't seen Stanley Kubrick's A
Clockwork Orange, this film will seem staggeringly
brilliant. For the majority, though, this adult version is
undeniably and heavily derivative, but it's exceptionally
well done and deserving of accolades for both effort and
overall effect.
Kaitlyn Ashley is "Alexandra," leader of an all-girl band of
droogs whose members include Rebecca Lord, Olivia and Isis
Nile. The girls decide it's time for "the old ultrasex" and
find an alley dweller (Dick Nasty) for beautiful brunette
Rebecca to sexually assault with a standing screw. It works,
but appears more cable-oriented than hardcore. Where's the
cumshot? A following scene featuring truant officer Shelby
Stevens relieving Kaitlyn's "intolerable pain in the groinal
area" is a hot and nasty femme-fest, with triple digit
insertions, hair tugging, and vibrators.
When the girl gang bursts into writer Jon Dough's home, Isis
Nile takes charge beautifully, providing explicit verbal
instructions. She commands Olivia to cowgirl and doggie Jon
as she joins in for a taste of the busty blonde. Isis's
forceful presence makes the scene.
Kaitlyn is arrested for "wanton sexual encounters" and must
be "desexed," Clockwork Orgy's answer to the Ludovico
Technique (no injections or eyelid clamps in this version; it
seems just watching an outstanding sex scene of warden
Jonathan Morgan and Nikole Lace -- and wearing a straitjacket
-- is enough to turn her off sex).
Jonathan turns in a standout performance, imitating the
Hitleresque prison guard from the mainstream film just enough
to be effective, but tones the role down sufficiently to make
it his own. Excellent lighting and subtly symbolic costuming
add to the ambiance. JM's buttoned-to-the-collar black shirt
and suit evoke and unyielding authoritarian (okay, fascistic)
presence. Look for this pleasing subliminal message in his
sex scene with Nikole; an excellent standing reverse cowgirl,
mish, standing doggie and anal (culminating in the lovely
brunette mouthing his balls until he spurts on her face).
Jonathan never removes the outfit, instead extracting his
package through the trousers' fly, reinforcing his
character's rigidity -- as well as his own. When Jonathan
explains his future plans for "a new celibate society" in an
on-stage demonstration (with a nauseated Kaitlyn tempted by
Nikole as his example) it's eerily true to the 90's
abstinence advocacy movement.
Ostensibly cured, Kaitlyn is freed and endures sexual
retribution with Dick Nasty's pals, bums Vince Vouyer and Jay
Ashley. She enjoys it a little too much for someone whose
"treatment" would cause her to become ill from sex,
but Dick's verbal participation adds as much as the sight of
adorable Kaitlyn getting it anally from Jay, with a double
facial finish from Jay and Vince. She staggers to Jon Dough's
home for help; now confined to a wheelchair (we'll assume sex
with Olivia caused this) Jon eventually recognizes her and
obtains revenge by showing her porn films. And yes, she leaps
out a window as a result, the treatment is reversed, and the
orgy scene ensues.
Although crucial, being half the films's title, this orgy
never quite produces the rise it intends. Jonathan, Dick,
Vince, Olivia, Kaitlyn, Isis, Rebecca and Alex Sanders switch
partners so quickly and frequently that it's impossible to
tell who's doing whom, although Alex and Kaitlyn have a few
seconds' worth of doggie that looks hot. "I was treated all
right!" beams Kaitlyn.
Incredibly clear cinematography and excellent art direction
are sure nominations getters, and Jonathan Morgan deserves to
be kept in mind for Best Supporting Actor (although he's not
allowed to display a phenomenal range of emotion, his
phrasing and line delivery are memorable). Barry Boxx's score
is an important contribution, augmenting many of the sex
scenes. Cramer's homage to Kubrick won't win any prizes for
originality, but he's certainly an accomplished imitator of a
classic film. Wonder if he does Polanski? Nic Cramer
Presents.... Rosemary's Booby? Nic, your public
awaits.
