Herschel Savage (born November 25, 1952) is an American pornographic actor and porn movie director.
He was born Herschel Cohen to Russian Jewish parents in New York City. He studied acting under Broadway actress Uta Hagen and renowned acting teacher Stella Adler. Savage initially sought a mainstream stage and screen career, however became disillusioned by the constant auditioning and competition for roles. Savage was introduced to the adult film producer R. Bolla in the late 1970s. He then became one of the biggest stars of the "Golden Age of Porn" in the 1970s and 80's. He appeared in the 1978 classic Debbie Does Dallas, for which he was paid about $150 a day. Some of the other big films he appeared in include Expose Me Now, Bodies in Heat and Rambone Does Hollywood. He left porn in 1988 and worked in sales and video distribution, also playing a few roles in local theater productions. He then returned to the industry in 1997. Savage is one of the disproportionately large number of very successful Jewish pornstars; a group which includes Paul Thomas, Ron Jeremy, Jerry Butler, Marc Wallice, Richard Bolla, Richard Pacheco, William Margold and several more. Indeed Paul Thomas once quipped that "If one of the thinnest books in the world is Professional Jewish Athletes, then one of the thickest is Famous Jewish Porn Stars".
Savage has also launched a fledgling career as a stand up comedian, and appears frequently on the reality TV series Family Business. In 2006 he starred in Neil Simon's play The Prisoner of 2nd Avenue under the stage name Max Cohen, at the Morgan-Wixson Theater in Santa Monica.

So, how did I come to take the leap into the world of adult films? I was introduced to the adult industry while I was dancing in Las Vegas, Nevada. I was approached by a talent scout, who asked me if I would be interested in doing pictorials for men's magazines.
Since my plans of becoming a professional ice skater had changed, I now wanted to "Feature Dance". For those of you who don't know, a "feature dancer" is paid to come to various clubs around the country and/or world and make a "celebrity appearance" to perform for short runs of time. The more exposure a dancer has in the various media, such as magazines and films, the higher fees they can charge a club per show. So, I saw this "talent scouts" offer as a perfect way to build my credits.
Shortly after meeting him, I flew to Los Angeles, met a few photographers and scheduled some shoots. I continued to fly back and forth between Alaska and LA for the next year. After several weeks of thinking very carefully, I decided to move to LA and do my first adult film. Since then, I have done numerous films and magazines.
